Rocking Oslo Norway Weekend, All Yours to Grab
The spring thaw is here; break off the lethargy, grab a rocking Oslo weekend. But at this time, in March, Oslo is still frigid but the city rocks. Although March is not the coldest month, it is still freezing cold, but by April, Oslo begins to warm up. Now it's your choice, a frigid weekend or a sunny break in this cold city.
Cold or Warm: It's Still the Best Place to Go
Whatever season you choose, Oslo is still the best place to go. If you want to catch some late skiing adventure or if you want a glimpse of Oslo's promise for the summer ahead, you have lots to do to
enjoy an Oslo weekend - alone, with a partner, with friends, or with family.
A stark white landscape dotted with wooden benches and stubborn winter shrubs are fighting for attention. The place is noted for its incredible sculptures of everyday scenes of lovers, children, women, elderly and families, captured in different everyday pursuits. There are at the last count hundreds of bronze and stone statues. In winter, the naked limbs of the statues are covered with ice but in summer they give a different atmosphere - a celebration of life and art under sunny skies.
The remarkable sculptures are huge and beautiful. To a trained eye, these statues are masterpieces and the most captivating is the 14.12 meters Monolith, a sculpture carved from one block of stone that looks like a totem pole with 121 human figures fitted in to resemble humanity trying to reach the skies. The embracing figures evoke a feeling of togetherness and oneness as they are swept towards salvation.
It won't be fun though to picnic in the park when the weather is freezing but there are benches where you can take a breather from all that walking. Sit down and relax and enjoy the winter view. During the summer, a picnic in the park is a must do. You get the best views anywhere in the park or sunbath in designated areas or enjoy some games.
In the summer, it's fun to walk along the Karl Johans Gate and gay at the party mood. The restaurants and cafes are brimming with locals and tourists enjoying the sunlight, until it fades by 11 pm, before the nightlife starts to rock. There are also upscale stores for the intrepid shoppers. You can shop, have coffee or a beer after walking the stretch.
If you prefer the cold March weather, Oslo still is tops. Indoors, discover how hotels pamper guests with their warm baths, king-sized beds, and lots of fluffy pillows. You might be tempted to stay indoors and sip champagne while watching TV.
Still, the cold does not stop the changing of the guards at the Royal Palace. Get the schedule from your friendly front desk clerk and rush to the Palace because the daily changing of the guards is only open to the public for a few hours.
Oslo is not cheap. But the beguiling Oslo City is one place you shouldn't miss for a weekend getaway. Grab a weekend deal from your favorite Oslo hotel or hostel. Online booking is the fastest way to beat other weekenders to the best room in the house.
