Mild Summers and Super Hot Activities in Oslo
When the summer winds begin to blow in Oslo, the fun begins. For the season, there's 18 hours of daylight, so there's much time to walk the scenic nature trails, go cruising on the fjords, or partying. It's a bargain - you get more time to view the spectacular scenes in Oslo and experience the phenomenon of 18 hours of sun everyday before the season closes with a bang.
Cool the Heat with a Fjord Cruise
Between June and August, Oslo boasts of its hottest climate. With so much sun to go around for a day, locals and tourists pack in a lot of outdoor activities. The hottest day can approach 30°C or 86°F. This is remedied with cool summer sandals, shorts, loose tees and dark shades and there's the swimming to be enjoyed for hours, literally.
For starters, cool yourself with the classic sightseeing popular with both locals and visitors - the Fjord cruises. For two hours and thirty minutes, you can view several interesting places such as the Fortress Town of Fredrikstad, Halden's Fredriksten Fort, the prehistoric relics on the Highway of the Ancients, Naval Museum at Horten, Viking Mounds, Sandefjord's Whaling Museum, and the rocky islands of Notteroy and Tjome. Snacks are not included in the ticket but these are sold during the cruise.
The cruise will also pass the Opera House, cut through idyllic bays and maneuver through several islands dotted with small quaint or elegant Oslo summer houses. There are three different cruises - a mini cruise that takes about 50 minutes, a two-hour cruise which is inclusive of lunch or dinner and at 10:30 in the evening, the sun is still up.
Free Fun
Apart from the famous museums and palaces, seek out Aker Brygge to enjoy beer and Norwegian dishes while taking in the relaxing harbor view. The atmosphere is festive and goes on until the evening. The area is packed with cinemas, tourist shops, cafes and restaurants, so there's no time to idle while you are here. After a beer or two, you can watch a movie or go shopping. But watch out, the place is expensive.
If you want to watch the trendy and rich crowd, stroll on the Bogstadveien. The classy cafes and restaurants are worth a visit and it is not rare to catch a glimpse of rare sports cars and flashy Ferraris and Jaguars flashing through the narrow street. Want coffee? Just drop in one of the outdoor cafes and continue your people and car watching. It's fun and it's free.
Oslo has a string of world class hotels, budget hotels, bed and breakfast, and hostels. Choose a holiday apartment online before the summer gets any hotter.
